How to care for Jewelry

Silver and Gold -coated Jewelry

To protect the finish of your gold-plated (or gold-coated) jewelry, avoid storing it alongside sterling silver.

The Problem: Sterling silver naturally oxidizes and releases gases that cause tarnish (the blackening) on its own surface. When silver is stored right next to gold-plated items, these same corrosive elements aggressively attack the thin gold layer on the plated piece.

The Result: This accelerated corrosion will quickly dull, discolor, and degrade the gold coating, sometimes causing it to flake off entirely.

The Solution: Always store your silver jewelry in a separate compartment, an airtight bag, or its own anti-tarnish pouch, away from all your gold-plated and costume pieces.
